I'm currently sitting at the counter in my uncle and aunt's house in Washington. I know! No longer in Spain. It's a sad thought but on the other hand I just consumed a turkey sandwich and I wouldn't have been able to find that in Spain so life is pretty good. I know my last post was about the last week or so in Granada, but on the very last day I managed to take a break from packing up and walk around town with my friends. In the evening we headed up to the Alhambra with some wine to watch the sunset. It was lovely and surprisingly empty which made for some great photos. It was a pretty low-key last day which I really appreciated. Just being able to walk around my city one last time and soak it all in was so special. I hope someday I return and can see all of my favorite places again. If anyone is ever in the South of Spain, I highly recommend taking a little time to see the gem that is the city of Granada. You won't regret it.

Hi Guys! I wanted to do one more quick post to wrap this incredible year of traveling up. When I first thought about starting a blog, I really wanted to create a place that I could share my adventures with anyone who would be interested. I myself read a lot of different blogs and one thing I've really come to appreciate are the pictures that writers chose to help them tell their stories. With that in mind, I wanted to work on my own personal page and make sure that the photos I put up were photos that I would enjoy looking at as well. I had never been seriously into photography or anything like that, but I wanted to invest in a camera before I left so that I could capture all that I wanted to. I reached out to one of my favorite bloggers Christine Skari, who runs apple-of-my-eye.com, and asked if she had any advice on user friendly cameras. She is a fourth year at the same university as me and is such a sweetheart and gave me a few suggestions. I ended up buying a Nikon COOLPIX P530 on amazon and I'm really happy with the choice I made. It was so easy to use, whether I was hiking in the mountains of Spain or feasting on market food in Thailand. I wanted to just quickly share one of the last pictures I took while abroad that also happens to be my favorite. I took this one at low light during our last walk around the Alhambra. The shooting mode was actually on User settings mode, which I haven't changed since I received the camera due to the quality of pictures it gives me. My favorite thing about this picture is the sense of depth it gives you. On the left hand side you can see the edge of the Alhambra, and on the right you can see the Sacromonte (oldest neighborhood in Granada), as well as the sunset over the mountains in the back. Granada was so beautiful that it was easy to snap good photos wherever I was, but I truly appreciate the beauty of this specific place and what it will always mean to me. I actually was just introduced to a new compact camera from this company called Light, that allows you to edit pictures right on your camera to affect the depth of field. This photo was submitted for their #VantagePoint project.
Time sure does fly. I know that's so incredibly cliche, but it's true! I can remember being dropped off at the airport back in September like it was yesterday. I was excited and nervous for what was to come, but my experiences have exceeded every expectation that I had. Before I get into a ton of mushy stuff, let me catch you up on what's been going on the past few weeks. We had a long weekend off from school at the end of April, so my roomate and I decided to spend some time in Mallorca. For those of you who don't know where that is, it is an island off of Spain right near Ibiza and Menorca. It was a long day of traveling to get there because we started at 8 pm. and had an 8 hour layover during the night in Barcelona. We arrived on the island at 7 a.m. and made our way to where we would be staying. While there for the week, it managed to rain 4 entire days. We still found ways to have fun and it ended up being such a relaxing trip. When we got back from our beach trip, it was Tuesday and I was looking forward to hanging in Granada for the last couple of weeks. My friend Kasia, who I was in London with, flew into Granada to spend a couple days with me the following weekend. Unfortunately for us, it rained the entire time she was here. Five straight days! We managed to get a decent amount of sightseeing done in the short brakes of the rain. One great thing about the weather was that there were some pretty incredible clouds that were perfect for picture taking. On the last day together we walked through the Albaicin which is the old muslim neighborhood that dates back to before the Christians took over in the 15th century. As you can see, I couldn't get enough of the view of the Alhambra. In the time I have spent traveling these past 9 months, nothing has come close to beating that view. It always manages to take my breath away and I feel so incredibly thankful for being able to live in such a wonderful city. I head home in 5 days which is a crazy feeling, but I've had so many crazy adventures and have met the most amazing people. If you ever have the opportunity to study or live abroad, I suggest wholeheartedly that you take it.
